We're excited to announce the release of Confluent Command Line Tool (CLI) v4 and Confluent Terraform Provider v2.
To enhance your experience and unlock more features in Confluent Cloud, we've made the Stream Governance Essentials package a standard part of all Confluent Cloud environments. This means you won't have to worry about manually managing the Schema Registry anymore—it's all taken care of for you! With new CLI v4 and Terraform provider v2 releases, setting up a new Confluent Cloud environment automatically includes the Confluent Cloud Stream Governance package.
The new Confluent CLI 4.0 and Confluent Terraform provider 2.0 releases are fully supported with Confluent Cloud. At this time, CLI v4 has not yet been validated with Confluent Platform.
We encourage all our current Confluent Cloud users to upgrade from earlier versions (Confluent CLI v2, v3 and Confluent Terraform Provider v1) by February 2025 to take advantage of these improvements.
Please review the Release Notes for all changes, including breaking changes for existing users of CLI v3 or Terraform provider v1. If you're using Confluent Cloud and have scripts or Terraform modules that create or delete the Schema Registry, you'll need to make changes to your scripts.
Our support policy for the Confluent CLI aligns with the Confluent Platform's compatibility matrix, ensuring continued support for CLI v3. However, please note that CLI v2 support is winding down (i.e. deprecation). Starting November 2024, we'll only provide security and critical fixes for CLI v2, and this limited support will last until November 2025, after which CLI v2 will be discontinued.
We're here to help you make the most of these new releases, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance with upgrading.
